Book Review: SECRETS OF DIVINE LOVE ( by A. Helwa)

This age is definitely marked by fanatical chaos of religious radicalism along with widespread right-wing politics and generalized hatred towards each other’s faith, culture and tradition which has become the norm of the day.

In midst of this, a voice arose to develop ones love and understanding for religion and God and it should be appreciated by all means. There are some amazing facts to start with.  The author never wanted to write this book in first place. She held a long conversation with Allah that if it would improve people's understanding about religion and God then only she should be facilitated to embark on this journey.

It is quite evident from the way she explains complex set of ideas and devotion that this work cannot be anything but the blessing of God. The book is written solely with the intention to ingrain the seed of God's love in a heart of its readers. The Secrets of Divine Love is a spiritual journey of A. Helwa.

She diligently explains how she discovered the clandestine meaning behind the external code of conduct in Islam like prayer, sala’t, zaka’t, hajj , fasting and not only the conducts but also the belief system comprising upon life, death, relationships (on personal and community level), finite nature of this world and above all, she endeavored to unravel the mysteries behind ones relationship with God.

She prays at the beginning of every chapter to open the door of blessing and wisdom for her and her readers. This book surely aides one to be non-judgmental by identifying the spiritual side of deeds. She advocates the idea that judgment belongs to God only which means we can never say that the sinful person would remain disgraced for the rest of his or her life; she imagines and depicts God as the most merciful Being who is always ready to forgive and provide opportunity for change to people who repent and seek His favour.

The Secrets of Divine love encourages one to practice the injunctions of Islam wholeheartedly by recognizing the meaning behind every act of submission.

The last chapter is the epic of the book. It talks about the transcendent secrets of existence and our position in this universe. The chapter is named as “You Are Loved” aptly describing the theme of its content. It makes one to reflect how he or she is important in this universe.

She frequently uses quotes and work of scholars, poets and saints namely Qaswani, Ata Iskandari, Abu Barzark, Sheikh Zakariya Al-Siddiqi, Mahmad Shabistari, Abu Sai'd Abul Khayr and Shaikh Sidi Muhammad Al-Jamal.

The beauty of A. Helwa's narration is enhanced by the description of natural sciences like physics, chemistry, astronomy, biology and medicine along with spiritual learning to assist one to fathom the function of this universe in a larger framework.
